Fluvial-estuarine deposition in the mid-Cretaceous Dakota Formation, Kansas and Nebraska
R. Matt Joeckel, University of Nebraska, Lincoln
Greg Ludvigson, Kansas Geological Survey
This field trip will examine Late Albian facies transitions from open marine to fluvial-estuarine facies in the Dakota Formation. Themes will include the recognition of high-frequency marine transgressive cycles in the Kiowa-Skull Creek and Muddy Sandstone intervals, palynostratigraphic correlations, and sedimentologic and ichnologic recognition of fluvial-estuarine facies. Cost includes transportation, guidebook, lunch, and snacks.
Min.: 8; Max.: 18. Cost $50, includes transportation, lunch, guidebook.
