Hathaway is a student assistant in the Survey's library and has assisted with the Survey's outreach program. The Plummer award is named after Norman Plummer, a long-time Survey researcher who specialized in studies of Kansas clay and building materials.

Richard Sleezer, a Ph.D. student in geography from Gridley, Kansas, was awarded the Frank Foley Groundwater Student Travel Award.
