News Release, Kansas Geological Survey, May 6, 1998
The council will hear presentations by KU vice chancellor for research and public service Robert Barnhill, and James Triplett, a biologist from Pittsburg State University who chairs the Kansas Special Commission on Water Quality Standards. Barnhill will discuss "The New KU Research and Public Service Vision." Triplett will discuss issues related to surface-water quality in the state.
The agenda also includes a description of geology courses available over the Internet from Emporia State University, and a visit to Emporia State's geology museum.
Survey staff members will describe a new study of the Hugoton natural gas area of southwestern Kansas, geologic mapping, and an upcoming study of groundwater-quality issues in western Kansas.
The Survey's advisory council is a 12-member committee made up of business people, legislators, and others from around the state. They meet twice a year to review Survey programs and discuss statewide natural-resources issues.
The council will meet on the afternoon of May 7 and the morning of May 8, at Emporia State's student union.
