Middle Pennsylvanian (Desmoinesian and Atokan [?] stages) strata disconformably overlie Mississippian limestone (Osagean and Meramecian stages) across eastern Kansas (Merriam, 1963). The extensively karsted Mississippian surface has a structural dip trending to the west-northwest and is characterized by a cherty carbonate residuum. Depth ranges from 350 to 1,575 ft below the surface.
