Extracting Lithofacies from Digital Well Logs Using Artificial Intelligence, Panoma (Council Grove) Field, Hugoton Embayment, Southwest Kansas
Kansas Geological Survey
Open-file Report 2003-68

We settled on eight major lithofacies for the Council Grove, six in the marine carbonates (based on primary texture) and two in the nonmarine (based on grain size). The Council Grove is approximately 50% marine and 50% nonmarine. Carbonates having grain-supported textures constitute the majority of the flow capacity yet make only 16% of the training set rock volume. The best storage and flow lithofacies (grainstones and phyloid algal bafflestones) account for only 4% of the rock volume.
