Extracting Lithofacies from Digital Well Logs Using Artificial Intelligence, Panoma (Council Grove) Field, Hugoton Embayment, Southwest Kansas
Kansas Geological Survey
Open-file Report 2003-68

Council Grove sediments were deposited on a nearly flat, gently sloping ramp resulting in wide lithofacies belts that migrated quickly across the ramp in response to glacial-eustatic sea level changes. Shown here are five of the eight major lithofacies and the particular sample’s properties. In decreasing reservoir properties are Phyloid Algal bafflestone mound lithofacies, grainstone shoal lithofacies, lagoonal dolomites, open marine wackestones and nonmarine shaly siltstones of probable eolian origin.
